At this time of year many of us often suffer from dry, flakey or sore lips. I personally suffer from this a lot in the winter, especially if I get a cold. I have tried many different products and techniques over the years to exfoliate flakey skin from lips before lipstick application. There are so many 'lip scrub' options on the market. I particularly like the LUSH's Mint Julips for it's mint choc-chip flavour and great scrubbing action.
However, when working with models I find that some of the scrubs can get a little bit messy to use so I've had to come up with something different, so here's my top-tip:
Blistex MedPlus is my secret weapon against sore, dry lips - Both for myself and on models.
What it says on the website: A medicated balm with a dream team of ingredients to repair and restore your lips. Jojoba Oil and Cocoa Butter for conditioning and Menthol to add soothing coolness.
When doing makeup for a shoot I pop a generous layer of this on the lips after I've thoroughly cleansed the model's skin. I let it absorb whilst I do the rest of my skin prep. Once I have prepared the model's skin with lovely nourishing serum, moisturiser and eye cream I blot the lips with a tissue to remove excess balm. Then, using a cotton bud, I gently rub the lips using small circular motions. This will help to slough away any flakey skin without hurting the lips - dry chapped lips can often be a bit sore too. Once I feel satisfied that I have removed as much of the flakiness as possible I pop another layer of the balm on whilst I do the makeup. When I come to doing the lips blot well with a tissue to reveal soft kissable lips.
Give it a try next time you're suffering from sore, dry lips and reveal a beautiful kissable pout.
